PALO ALTO, Calif. – July 26, 2016 — Space Systems Loral (SSL), a leading provider of innovative satellites and spacecraft systems, today announced that the Intelsat 36 satellite, designed and built for Intelsat S.A (NYSE: I), operator of the world’s first Globalized Network, powered by its leading satellite backbone, has arrived at the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, where it will be launched aboard an Ariane 5 launch vehicle by Arianespace. The satellite will be used to provide media and content distribution services in Africa and South Asia.
“SSL delivered Intelsat 36 to the Arianespace launch base in just 24 months from contract signing,” said John Celli, president of SSL. “This type of fast turn-around is only possible when we work closely with trusted partners, like Intelsat. SSL has built more than fifty satellites for Intelsat, and Intelsat 36 is the second that we have delivered to them in 2016. Now our teams are working together with Arianespace to prepare the satellite for launch.”
Intelsat 36 was designed with both Ku-band and C-band capacity, and will be used to provide direct-to-home television services in Sub-Saharan Africa as well as television program distribution services in South Asia.
